Although circumstances did not allow me to own my first one until middle age, as I recall from my earliest childhood, I think I was born loving the Arabian horse. I had not owned my first Arabians for two years when I met the Straight Egyptian and was hooked. Just when I thought nothing could be more perfect, a Maar-Ree granddaughter, the beautiful Khartahl Mahrousa came to my small farm on a lease. Her incredible beauty, kindness and quiet intelligence captivated me completely. She is Kuhaylah Jellabiyah, and was my first encounter with this wonderful strain. Since meeting other Kuhaylan Jellabi horses, including RDO Faserrs Fury of the Meshmesa line, I have had to conclude that the characteristics that so endear Mahrousa to me, are characteristics typical of this wonderful strain. As I began to read and study about them, I found that they are horses of unexcelled athletic ability, best exemplified by three time U.S. National Champion and ten times U.S.D.F Horse of the year and Gold Medal winner in Grand Prix Dressage, Serr Maariner. Their kind, gentle manner and eagerness to learn are qualities apparent in every Jellabi I have had the pleasure to meet. |

As I share the small amount of information I have on this wonderful strain of Arabian horse, it is my hope that other breeders of the Kuhaylan Jellabi will share pictures and information about their horses, their horses' ancestors and their breeding programs that this site may become a repository for information about these wonderful horses, past and present. Of all the Arabian Horses in the world only a little over three percent are Straight Egyptian, Al Khamsa or other documented pure Desert Bred horses. Of these, only about eight percent are of the Kuyhalan Jellabiah strain. To put that into numbers, according to the Manual of Straight Egyptian Horses by Martha Murdoch and published by the Pyramid Society: *As of the end
of 1999, the U.S. totals (living and deceased) are as follows:
