When you join the American Competitive Trail Horse Association (ACTHA), and ride a Competitive Trail Challenge (CTC), you can win big. An ACTHA CTC is a 6 mile trail, with judged obstacles every mile or so. The riders and horses are judged and given score based on how well they complete the obstacles, demonstrating their horsemanship and riding skills. What's in it for you? "ACTHA Bucks," cumulative points for you and your horse, prizes, prestige, and donations to charities benefiting horses. How great is that?

First, just by joining ACTHA, you get $25 in "ATCHA Bucks." You also get $25 in ACTHA Bucks if you refer a friend who joins. Up for the taking at each ACTHA CTC is another $925 in ACTHA Bucks. In the open/pleasure division, first place (highest point score for rider) gets $150 ACTHA Bucks, second gets $100, third gets $50, and fourth, fifth, and sixth get $25 each. You can redeem your ACTHA Bucks with the association's sponsors, which include Cavallo, Equus University, Horseloverz.com, Molly's Custom Silver, and more. ACTHA will be announcing awards for its junior division in the future.

Next, there are special rewards just for participating in an ACTHA CTC and for signing up early. Every rider in a CTC gets a coupon for 25% off of a Downunder Horsemanship (Clinton Anderson) DVD. If you sign up at least 20 days in advance of a ride, you get 40% off of items purchased from Cavallo online. And the very first to sign up for a ride gets a Feed Barn Bag from Life Data Labs. The owner of the horse who is judged "Best Groomed" wins 32oz of eZall's Total Body Wash. The rider who places first in the open/pleasure division at each CTC gets one year's tuition paid at Monte Robert's Equus University.

Next, cash prizes are awarded at the end of each competition year based on overall points earned by riders within ACTHA's regions. ACTHA awards $50,000 nationally, or $10,000 per region. For the open/pleasure division, the point leader in each region gets $2500; the rider with the second most points gets $1500. The rider with the third most points gets $1000. If your horse wears Cavallo boots in your CTCs, Cavallo will double your winnings if you place first, second, or third overall in your region.

Your horse gets in on the action also. Your horse earns "horse honors" points at each ride. He gets one honor point just for competing, 1 more for placing sixth, two more for placing fifth, three for placing fourth, four for placing third, five more for placing second, and six more horse honor points for placing first. These horse honor points are cumulative over the life of the horse. Once the horse has earned 50 horse honor points, he wins a bronze medal and you get an ACTHA vest. If he earns 100 horse honor points, he earns a silver medal and you get an ACTHA jacket. At 150 horse honor points, he gets a gold medal and you get ACTHA chinks. Imagine the value (and pride) you could build up if you were able to say that your horse was the all time champion ACTHA horse honors winner!

Other horses benefit by your joining ACTHA and participating in CTCs also. Together with its sponsors, ACTHA has donated over $100,000 to horse rescue groups, scholarship funds, and humane societies. If you join ACTHA and ride a CTC, you win big. You'll have fun, make friends, earn money and prizes, gain prestige, and help ACTHA to help horses also.
